The current VolWheel app was actually written for Arch Linux, and ported to Ubuntu with a quick .deb hack. It is old, if I'm honest I'd like to replace it as quickly as possible.

If anyone has any suggestions for a different volwheel app, i'd be eager to hear them.

gvolwheel is perfect, exactly what I've been looking for. I've just built it and am now adding it to the repository.
